Testing & Quality Standards | Premium Grounding
How we build, test, and verify the world's most conductive grounding sheets.
Why Testing Matters
A grounding sheet only works if it conducts. Many grounding products on the market gradually lose conductivity as their materials degrade — and there's no visible indication when this happens. You could be sleeping on a sheet that stopped working months ago without knowing it.
At Premium Grounding, we test every product at every stage: raw materials, finished fabric, assembled products, and post-wash durability. We also encourage our customers to test their own products at home with a simple multimeter.
Our Material: 316L Medical-Grade Stainless Steel
Every Premium Grounding product is made with 30% medical-grade 316L stainless steel fibre woven into certified ConductiveCore™. Here's why this matters:
| Property | 316L Stainless Steel | Silver-Coated Fibre | Carbon-Infused PU |
|---|---|---|---|
| Initial surface resistance | 5–15 Ω | 10–30 Ω | 30–80 Ω |
| After 12 months of use | 5–20 Ω | 50–200+ Ω | 60–150+ Ω |
| After 36 months of use | 5–25 Ω | 200–500+ Ω (often non-conductive) | 100–300+ Ω (degraded) |
| Oxidation resistance | Excellent — corrosion-resistant | Poor — oxidizes from sweat and oils | Moderate — micro-cracking over time |
| Expected lifespan | 3–5+ years | 6–24 months | 12–36 months |
| Medical/surgical grade | Yes (FDA-approved for implants) | No | No |
| Cost per month of use | ~$5–7/month | ~$10–17/month | ~$8–12/month |
How We Test
1. Raw Material Verification
Every batch of stainless steel fibre is verified to be 316L grade — the same corrosion-resistant alloy used in surgical instruments, marine hardware, and medical implants. We verify the fibre composition (30% stainless steel, 70% ConductiveCore™) and check for consistent thread diameter and tensile strength.
2. Fabric Conductivity Testing
Before any fabric is cut into sheets, we test conductivity across multiple points using a calibrated multimeter. We measure surface resistance at a minimum of 5 locations per roll and reject any fabric that exceeds our resistance threshold.
3. Finished Product Testing
Every finished sheet, pillowcase, and mat undergoes a final conductivity check. We test the connection from the grounding snap to multiple points across the fabric surface to ensure consistent conductivity from edge to edge.
4. Wash Durability Testing
We wash-test products through 100+ cycles to verify that conductivity is maintained. Unlike silver-coated products that degrade with each wash as the silver coating wears away, stainless steel fibres are solid metal — the conductivity is inherent to the fibre itself, not a surface coating.
Body Voltage Testing
The most meaningful real-world test is body voltage measurement. Using a multimeter set to AC voltage:
- Ungrounded: Typical body voltage is 2–5V AC (from ambient EMF in your home)
- Grounded on a Premium Grounding sheet: Body voltage drops to 0.01–0.05V AC
- Reduction: 98–99% decrease in body voltage
This is a test anyone can perform at home with our grounding multimeter. For step-by-step instructions, see our complete testing guide.
Why Other Brands Don't Use Stainless Steel
If stainless steel is superior, why do most grounding sheet brands use silver instead?
- Cost: 316L stainless steel fibre costs significantly more than silver coating. Silver coating is a thin surface treatment applied to ordinary thread — it's cheaper to produce but degrades quickly.
- Manufacturing difficulty: Weaving stainless steel fibre requires specialized equipment. Most textile factories aren't set up for it.
- Planned obsolescence: A silver sheet that degrades in 12 months means the customer needs to buy a replacement. A stainless steel sheet that lasts 5+ years means one sale, not three.
We chose stainless steel because we'd rather sell you one product that works for years than three products that each stop working after months.
Test Your Own Sheet
We encourage every customer to verify their grounding connection independently. You don't have to take our word for it — test it yourself:
- Socket test: Use a grounding socket tester to verify your outlet is properly grounded.
- Continuity test: Use a multimeter to check continuity from the sheet's grounding snap to any point on the fabric.
- Body voltage test: Measure your body voltage before and after lying on the grounded sheet.
