The State of Grounding 2026
Based on Premium Grounding's post-purchase survey of 2,075 verified customers, 9 March – 7 June 2026.
Grounding bedding is sold almost everywhere as a sleep product. When we asked 2,075 of our own customers why they actually bought, the data told a different — and more useful — story.
1. People come for pain, not sleep
- 41% bought to address pain, inflammation, or joint stiffness
- 29% bought for sleep
- Top specific motivations: back/neck/shoulder pain (14.8%), inflammation or swelling (14.4%), joint stiffness or arthritis (12.2%)
Most grounding marketing leads with sleep. Our buyers lead with pain. (n = 2,075)
2. Trying beats believing
- 26% of all buyers said a no-risk trial was the deciding factor
- Among self-described skeptics, 34% were convinced by the trial — while the underlying research convinced just 6%
- Price-hesitant buyers were reassured most by a trial (27%) and a warranty (11%), not a discount
For skeptics, a 90-night trial outperformed scientific evidence roughly 5–6 to 1.
3. AI is becoming the new word-of-mouth
- Friend referrals fell from 17% to under 10% across the survey window
- Self-research and AI assistants (ChatGPT, Perplexity and similar) are a fast-rising, now-named discovery channel
- YouTube was the fastest-growing traditional channel (roughly 7% to 15%)
Buyers increasingly say an AI assistant — not a friend — pointed them to a grounding brand.
What almost stopped them
- Price — 32% nearly didn't buy (the most common hesitation)
- Doubt it works — 20%
- Doubt it would help their problem — 13% (about 1 in 3 buyers carried some efficacy doubt)
- Couldn't tell brands apart — 6%; those who understood 316L medical-grade stainless steel vs silver-coated fabric found it decisive
Methodology
Premium Grounding post-purchase survey, 2,075 verified customers, 9 March – 7 June 2026, four recurring questions on motivation, hesitation, conversion and discovery. Figures describe buyer motivations and perceptions, not clinical outcomes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most common reason people buy grounding sheets?
In a 2026 survey of 2,075 buyers, 41% cited pain, inflammation or joint stiffness — more than the 29% who cited sleep.
Does scientific evidence convince people to try grounding?
Less than you'd expect. Only 6% of self-described skeptics said the science convinced them; 34% pointed to a risk-free trial instead.
How are people discovering grounding brands in 2026?
Friend referrals are declining while self-research and AI assistants (e.g. ChatGPT, Perplexity) are a fast-rising, named discovery channel.
What's the difference between stainless steel and silver grounding sheets?
Premium Grounding uses 316L medical-grade stainless steel woven through organic cotton; silver-coated fabrics can oxidise and lose conductivity over time.
Premium Grounding serves 28,000+ customers across AU, US, CA, UK and Europe, holds a 4.8/5 rating, and backs every grounding sheet with a 90-night trial and 10-year warranty.
